Four Stocks To Keep An Eye On

Banner Corporation (NASDAQ:BANR) - As many traders could see, today's rise on increased volume amongst many other bullish indicators could push the stock substantially higher than where it is trading now which is around its base levels. As you could see, the stock has several favorable technical factors suggesting that it could breakout to new levels and could test its 52-week high which often attracts additional traders on the buyside, putting upward pressure on shares. The technical chart shows the stock has been doing well since the beginning of this year since the 50 day moving average went on top over 200 day moving average. In addition, the accumulation /distribution indicator is showing strong accumulation since it bottomed in November 2010, which is also a strong bullish sign. It’s a future sign that the price will rise because it’s a leading indicator. That means the indicators gives a buy or sell signal before the actual price movement occurs. Short interest on BANR as of Mar 31, also decreased 29.8% to 445,900 shares from 635,800 indicating that bears are covering their positions. Plus, the decline over the last few days occurred on lower volume and the stock is firming above the major support of $2.28. BANR has now the opportunity to start new rally as %K line is back above %D line. The near-term outlook is bullish and a close above its 50-dma would confirm this view. I continue to have a favorable longer-term view of the company and I believe the stock should provide steady, above-market returns over the long run. BANR just need more interest to get volume as the technicals are calling for a run. Keep watching the stock this week since I expect more volume over the next couple of days.

Looking at the technical chart of Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) the stock price is clearly in short-term downtrend. There are no signs of a recovery yet. Hold your long position with a stop loss at $8.12 (closing day basis).

Accompanied with good volumes, Silgan Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SLGN) marked an all-time high in the last trading session. With this, the daily momentum indicator has reached overbought levels and I believe that a near-term correction is likely to happen.

GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) - In the last trading session, the stock broke through the flag pattern. This means there is more upside. I think this is quite likely.

Other stocks to watch :

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTIC) needs to hold 38 cents on the downside or things could get very ugly. On the upside, the stock has resistance located betwen 40 and 41 cents.

Shares of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc (NYSE:MMI) continue to hold the recent $22.96 low. I would continue to be a buyer of MMI below $23.50. This stock is due for a rally back into the $26's.

Shares of Ciena Corporation (NASDAQ:CIEN) continue to inch higher. The stock really doesn't have any resistance until $27-$27.41.

Hot Stocks for Friday

Harmony Gold Mining Co. (NYSE:HMY) had a very good bullish rally this week accompanied with large volume. A gap was formed also with good volume. The stock is now near the red line as RSI approaches the 90 level. It may still move up some cents but I expect a correction any time as I have observed that a lot of indicators have already reached overbought level. Right now it is way too risky for a long position.

Parker Drilling Company (NYSE:PKD) has rallied from below $4 to above $5.75 in just two months, a gain of over 40%. The technical chart shows very strong upward momentum as the stock is trading above the 50 day moving average with both 50 day and 200 day moving average going up. At this point I will be a buyer only once it breaks through Wednesday’s high of $5.85 for the continuation move. Stochastics and the RSI are overbought but remain bullish signaling.

GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) closed at $1.30, up 15 cents points for the day, reconfirming the new uptrend after the recent break above the major resistance on expanding volume. The technical indicators are looking better for the stock. The technical chart shows a very bullish sign as the stock is back on top of 50 day moving average. For now, expect a run up to next resistance area around $1.50. If the stock is able to cross it and sustain above it, then it might go to $1.73 ( 200 EMA ). Support lies around $1.16.

DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ:DRYS) breaks above the key resistance zone at $4.72 ( MA 200 ), signifying that a new short term uptrend is in place. Further rise is expected to follow to retest $5.19 high. Near term support is now located at $4.62, as long as this level holds, I'd expect the uptrend to continue. Long-term investors may hold with a stop at $4.48.

Five Trade Ideas for Thursday, March 03

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:JAZZ) is setting up for a nice upside move and I'm going to be there when it occurs. The stock traded higher again on Wednesday as the stock ended the day near highs. The strength at the end of the day tells us to expect continued buying on Thursday. I expect to see a strong upside move once the stok breaks through resistance now at $25.48. Technically, my model remains long. The Relative Strength Index is moving higher, which is a sign of growing strength in the stock. Also the MACD is giving a positive indication. Keep a very close eye on the stock as it will move quickly once it breaks through resistance.

Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU) had a very strong day on Wednesday, as the stock broke out of its resistance trend line on the way to closing up 53 cents on the day. Wednesday’s high was $5.26, which is resistance for Thursday’s follow through move. You want to keep an eye on ALU so you do not miss when the stock does break through resistance.

DryShips Inc. (NASDAQ:DRYS) is showing signs of buying activity at these levels, as the stock has been able to hold up the past few sessions. Resistance level in DRYS is the high from Tuesday, which is $5.06. Watch the stock closely on Thursday for a possible move.

From TA view, GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) shows a bullish divergence on MACD while both RSI and Stochastic look oversold. To return to rally mode, the stock needs to cross its short-term resistance at $1.16. A move above this level would be positive for the stock. A reversal above $1.16 will take the stock higher to $1.25 or $1.34 over the medium-term. Short term momentum is oversold with a positive MACD divergence. GIGM may show recovery but rally is likely only above $1.34. The stock has good support at $1.12.

Banner Corporation (NASDAQ:BANR) - Found support at 13-day moving average. On Balance Volume still shows strong accumulation. A break above $2.59 would be a buy signal.

Stock Market Ideas for Thursday, February 10

In line with my prior expectation, Toll Brothers, Inc. (NYSE:TOL) moved up on Wednesday and is testing key resistance currently. Hence, fresh long position is recommended only if the stock climbs above $21.95 with tight stop-loss at $21.34.

JDS Uniphase Corporation (NASDAQ:JDSU) had a strong day and broke through its resistance line. The volume confirmed the breakout, as it was greater than average. This is what strong stocks generally do in a rebound : break resistance, hold the breakout and continue higher. The technical chart shows a very strong upward momentum as the stock is above the 50 day moving average with both 200 day and 50 day moving average going up. In addition , RSI and MACD also show very bullish signs.

There appears to be marginal downside risk on Bank of America Corporation (NYSE:BAC) from prevailing levels. The near-term trend is bullish and a move to the 15-15.24 range appears likely. The overall trend appears really positive.

The recent reversal in MBIA Inc. (NYSE:MBI) could be a buy signal. MBI traded down today, but not enough to make me stop watching. The volume was weak compared with recent sessions when prices rose, which means traders are not betting on the downside. I think the stock is still in a consolidation range, waiting to make a big move. This stock is going to have a big move and it should be to the upside.

The short bullish momentum of GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) continued today. The stock has recovered nicely and can potentially set-up very well for a swing-trade if the stock breaks through the resistance level at $1.30. Technical indicators are becoming more favorable with MACD and Stochastics starting to turn up. There could be good upside in this trade, so watch GIGM closely tomorrow.

Other stocks to watch :

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTIC) stock continues to hold $.35 but seems to have stalled here. A break below from this point forward would be very bearish.

Arena Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:ARNA) - I still like the stock for long term prospects.

Stocks in focus for Friday

11% Increase!!! A truly remarkable day for Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) shares. The stock surged 11.32 percent or 54 cents to $5.31 per share, spurring bullish options trading, amid renewed speculation the company is an acquisition target. Breakout !!!!! After nearly a month of consolidating sideways shares of Eastman Kodak broke out higher past resistance near $4.85. This is a very short-term bullish development. Conservative traders may want to exit now but I'm going to adjust my exit target just a little bit and move it from $5.68 to $5.95. Aggressive traders could easily aim for the $6 or $6.25 level. I first alerted on this one Friday night and Yesterday when it was trading at $4.77. Today it hit a high of $5.48 for a possible gain on 15% and ended the day at $5.31 so readers who bought in on my inital alert are still up 16%!! Hope everyone is having fun and making some money. To answer some of the e-mail's I have been receiving : Thank you for telling me about your success with EK and other alert's I have brought you. Technically speaking, EK looks promising. The stock is in a very strong bull market as MACD is high above signal line and %K line has just crossed on top over %D line. In addition, the long term trend is now bullish as the stock is on top of 50-day moving average and back above the 200-day moving average. All of the common indicators point to some very positive near-term advances.

Texas Instruments Incorporated (Public, NYSE:TXN) continues to show relative strength with another new relative high. The stock is beginning to look a little short-term overbought and due for a dip. I would expect TXN to find short-term support at the rising 10-day moving average near $32.85. On the other hand, fresh exposures may be considered on a move above $33.93.

After two days of relative weakness we're finally seeing an oversold bounce in Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO). Immediate resistance is at $20. A break above that area could trigger further upside recovery testing $21.12. Stay tuned !!!!

I have been warning readers that GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) looks like it would bounce back toward resistance near $1.73. From a technical standpoint the larger trend is still bearish but in the short-term technical indicators have turned bullish with the bounce. The MACD also confirms the price movement byheading higher and RSI shows that there's more upside to come. Furthermore, the most recent data shows that the short interest increased significantly ( 35% ). That's a high-degree of short interest, and raises the risk for a strong short squeeze. Right now I'd watch the 20-dma near $1.50 as short-term support.

Stock Picks for Friday December 3, 2010

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) has proven its bullishness. The stock has been moving with large volume over the past three trading sessions breaking several resistance lines. This definitely is a very bullish sign for this stock. The technical chart shows the momentum indicators have turned up and the RSI is on the rise. For the short term the stock should still continue to go up. A close above $4.52 would have positive implications and could push the stock to the 4.90-5.07 range.

GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) gained 4.83% for the day and formed a bullish continuation signal and also gave us a bullish MACD crossover which is a powerful bottom reversal signal and confirms my opinion that the stock is bottoming in preparation for a major bounce higher. Short-term traders can buy the stock with stop-loss at $1.41.

Atmel Corporation (NASDAQ:ATML) broke out to a new high for the year. This is generally a hot buy from a technical perspective, however and at this point the stock is a bit extended for additional positions. The RSI indicator at the top of the chart is showing an overbought reading. This doesn't mean that the price cannot go higher. The stock hit a high of $11.53 on the day, which is resistance for Friday’s continuation move. If the stock can break through this level, we should see another strong upside move.

Stock Picks for Thursday December 2, 2010

Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) had a spectacular day after announcing Jan. 4 date for company to split in two. Motorola investors will get 1 share of Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc., for every 8 shares they now own, the company said yesterday. Immediately afterward, it will swap 7 old shares of Motorola for 1 new share in the remaining company, boosting the stock’s value by a proportional amount to lift its marketability. The stock hit a high of 8.20 and ended at 8.01 for an end of day of 4.5% !!! The day’s high has clearly demonstrated that the potential for the stock is well above its current value. From a technical perspective, as long as the stock holds above the $7.70 support level the intermediate-term picture should remain positive. It seems that after today's trading, the short-term trend is bullish and a move to the 8.50-8.75 range appears likely.

For almost a month, the technical indicator OBV has been higher, and higher highs but the price action has been going sideways, that is called a bullish divergence. Because this kind of a "bullish divergence" generally ends up pushing a stock into a sharp rally, potentially unlocking piles of money in the process. So a BIG rally is now a definite possibility. Looking at the technical chart above, Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE:EK) is forming a symmetrical triangle with support at 4.66. I am expecting a breakout at 4.85. Aside from the triangle, EK is also forming a rounding bottom. A good breakout volume would be 6M-8M shares traded. Keep your eye on Eastman Kodak Company.

Citigroup Inc. (NYSE:C) broke through resistance and was able to sustain this move. The stock hit a high of $4.31, which is resistance for Thursday’s move. If the stock can break through resistance, we should see a strong follow through move. Watch the stock closely tomorrow.

GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ:GIGM) - The near-term trend is bearish and the stock faces a strong resistance at $1.50. A close above this range is a pre-requisite for the reversal of the bearish trend. The daily Oscillators and MACD are turning bullish and the price is now above the 5-MA, so the Bears have to be cautions because there is a high short interest in the stock. Keep an eye on GIGM for Thursday.
